Nigeria’s National Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that it will begin the implementation of electronic ticketing for its standard gauge network in the coming week.
This was confirmed by the NRC’s Managing Director (MD) Fidet Okhiria in an interview which took place on Wednesday.
Okhiria stated that the platform would be finalized on Wednesday next week, allowing it to be tested for a limited audience before being made available to the public.
He further stated that the system would ensure that ticket sales revenue is channelled directly into the government’s treasury, thus significantly reducing the risk of corruption and income leakage.
The NRC plans to first roll out the e-tickets system on the Abuja – Kaduna route, with further rollouts planned for other key routes such as Lagos – Ibadan, Itakpe – Warri the MD added.
