Ewaoluwa Olatunji, widely known as Ewa Cole or the “Queen of Afro-Solk,” has carved her name in the annals of musical history by setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest marathon singing Christmas songs.
The 29-year-old Nigerian singer embarked on a remarkable musical journey, singing continuously for an impressive 31 hours from December 27 to December 28, 2023.
Throughout this extraordinary feat, Ewa passionately delivered a repertoire of classic Christmas songs, including timeless favourites like “Deck the Halls,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and “Silent Night.”
Notably, she adhered to the stipulation that no song could be repeated within one hour, showcasing the breadth of her musical repertoire.
Ewa Cole explained that her inspiration for undertaking this monumental challenge was rooted in her desire to “promote peace and unity” while also serving as a source of inspiration for young people.
She said her journey into the world of music began in childhood where she often took center stage during her school’s Christmas carol performances.
However, the road to this Guinness World Record was challenging. Ewa stated that she faced the trials of fatigue, throat pain, and stomach issues during the marathon singing session.
”The eighth to twelfth hours presented a particularly demanding period, exacerbated by the effects of mild food poisoning,” she stated.
Despite facing discomfort, Ewa persevered through this challenging phase, embodying resilience and determination.
Ewa Cole, a software engineer and managing her clothing brand, expressed her joy and excitement at earning the prestigious Guinness World Records title.
Describing the experience, she said, “I’m still buzzing with excitement.”
Reflecting on the arduous journey, Ewa acknowledged the pivotal role of faith, stating, “I never once stopped singing, even when I completely lost my voice. I will say that God was absolutely by my side all through.”
Her record-breaking achievement adds a new chapter to the rich tapestry of Nigerian musical excellence and serves as an inspiration for aspiring musicians globally.
