South African award-winning afro-pop singer and songwriter popularly known by her stage name Zahara has been confirmed dead.
South African culture minister Zizi Kodwa said in a statement that Zahara had been hospitalized with liver disease and that the government has been supporting her family.
Zahara’s family confirmed that she was admitted to the hospital in November and asked her fans and well-wishers to assist them in prayers.
Zahara rose to fame in 2011 with the release of her album “Loliwe,” which went viral across Africa.
In 2019, the singer opened up about her struggle with alcohol addiction.
