President Bola Tinubu has called on the House of Representatives to approve the 2024 statutory budget proposal of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The proposal, according to Tinubu, is focused on job creation and youth empowerment initiatives aimed at lifting many citizens out of poverty.
The request by the president was conveyed to the House of Representatives during Tuesday’s plenary session, with Speaker Hon. Tajudeen Abbas reading out the president’s letter.
In his letter, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of approving the FCT’s budget proposal to facilitate job creation and youth empowerment programs within the territory.
He highlighted that the proposal aligns with the fiscal and development policies of the Federal Government and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
”The budget proposal, prepared by the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is based on the FCTA’s revenue and expenditure focus and takes into consideration key assumptions in the 2024 budget.
”It prioritizes improvements in healthcare services, job creation, youth empowerment, and increased productivity in agriculture, the president stated.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the approval of the budget proposal would contribute to lifting many citizens out of poverty and advancing the economic recovery and growth plan for 2024-2026.
In response to the president’s request, Speaker Abbas stated that the request would be considered by the Committee on Appropriation, to expeditiously approve the budget proposal.
The Speaker said: ”The president’s letter underscores his government’s commitment to addressing socio-economic challenges and promoting inclusive growth and development in the FCT, in line with national development objectives.”
