Solana has surged ahead as the fastest blockchain among major players, driven by a surge in meme coin activity, according to a recent CoinGecko report.
Solana set a new benchmark, achieving an average daily transaction speed of 1,504 transactions per second (TPS).
This performance positioned Solana as 46 times faster than Ethereum and over five times quicker than Polygon, which previously held the top spot among Ethereum scaling solutions.
Despite its rapid performance, Solana reached only 1.6% of its theoretical maximum capacity of 65,000 TPS. This underscores both its current efficiency and potential for even greater scalability.
However, speed is not the only factor in play. The rapid rise in transactions has also attracted malicious actors.
Cryptocurrency detective ZachXBT revealed that at least 12 meme coin projects on Solana were abandoned by their creators shortly after the initial sale, leading to significant losses for investors.
These projects are part of a broader trend, with 27 meme coin ventures on Solana amassing approximately $112 million from investors.
The report highlights a significant increase in blockchain activity over the past year, driven largely by speculative investments in meme coins.
Nearly all transaction speed records were set within the last 12 months, indicating a rapid evolution in blockchain usage and performance.
