Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has urged the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, to reconcile warring factions ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Makinde backed Governor Nyesom Wike’s call for the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the party’s national chairman, adding that it would ensure inclusivity.
The governor stated this while receiving Atiku in Oyo on Wednesday, September 15.
“If we want to unify Nigeria, we must unify the PDP first. Our party wants to rescue Nigeria and our candidate is a unifier. He wants to restructure Nigeria,” said Makinde.
“If we want to restructure Nigeria, we must have the willingness to bring inclusivity to the PDP. The message from the South-West PDP is the South-West is asking that the National Working Committee of the PDP should be restructured.
“We are asking the National Chairman to step down so that the South will be fully included. That is the message,” he announced.
Makinde maintained that the presidential candidate of the PDP has the capacity to lead Nigeria to greater heights if elected in 2023.
