Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, has sent a cryptic message to top candidates seeking to lead Nigeria.
The three top candidates vying for the position of Nigeria’s president are Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Speaking on Monday at the official commissioning of the Orochiri-Worukwo (Waterlines Junction) Flyover in Port Harcourt, Wike revealed that voters in Rivers will not support anyone who treats the state with contempt.
Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu flagged off the project.
“Nobody will use our votes for nothing. Our votes will matter, and Rivers State must benefit from anybody that we are going to support,” Wike announced.
“If you say Rivers State does not matter, Rivers State will tell you that you don’t also matter at the appropriate time. If you don’t like us, we will not like you. If you like us, we will like you.
“Politics now is no longer just voting for somebody, it is about what you will do for the people of Rivers State,” the governor declared.
Wike has been at loggerheads with leaders of the PDP since the emergence of Atiku as the party’s presidential flagbearer.
Efforts to reconcile Wike and Atiku have failed due to some demands by Wike.
Sources say that the Rivers state governor is demanding the removal of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, among others.
