Dr Bosun Tijani, the minister of communications and digital economy, has expressed the federal government’s appreciation to Nigerians based in the diaspora who are actively engaged in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in London.
Tijani appreciated the Nigerian techies after attending the AI Safety Summit in the United Kingdom.
Tijani, a prominent figure in the Nigerian tech ecosystem before his appointment, underscored the role the diaspora community plays in Nigeria’s strategy for accelerating AI’s utilisation to drive socio-economic growth in the country.
He also acknowledged their contribution to discussions related to leveraging AI for the benefit of Nigeria.
Tijani further emphasised the importance of collaborations and dialogues with skilled Nigerians in the diaspora to enhance Nigeria’s AI landscape for socio-economic advancement.
The summit brought together political leaders and tech experts to discuss the promise and potential perils of this rapidly advancing technology.
Experts say as AI grows, countries worldwide are trying to get ahead of the curve and establish some ground rules.
The summit resulted in some crucial declarations and initiatives that give us a glimpse into the future of AI governance.
One of the declarations outlines plans for greater transparency from AI developers regarding safety practices and more scientific collaboration on understanding AI’s risks.
It’s being hailed as a landmark achievement in getting the world’s AI leaders aligned on managing the dangers of AI in the domains of daily life from “misuse or unintended issues of control relating to alignment with human intent.”
