The virginity debate has always been a hot topic among Nigerians. To some men, girls are now being deflowered at early ages.
This debate was rekindled recently by Davido’s logistics manager, Israel Afeare, popularly known as Israel DMW.
Israel DMW while celebrating his wife’s birthday revealed that he met her as a virgin at 21.
According to the elated husband who declared that he is the happiest man on earth, this feat is not common among Benin girls.
Recall that Israel and his wife Sheila David tied the knot in October 2022.
The ceremony saw Davido and other celebrities in attendance.
His statement swiftly commanded reactions from Nigerians who seized the opportunity to address the issue.
In their reactions, some Nigerians insisted that 99.9 % of paternity fraud is a result of marrying deflowered women.
According to them, Israel is lucky to find a virgin for a wife. They added that with this marriage, he is set to avoid unnecessary heartaches.
In fact, some extremists want stricter punishment for women who are not virgins. They said men should punish bad behaviour by not marrying women who are not virgins.
They added that when women finally get punished for bad behaviour, then they’ll correct the behaviour.
However, some sections of Nigerians are opposed to the view that marrying a virgin guarantees freedom from heartaches.
They posited that marrying a virgin does mean she will make a good wife.
Nigerians in this school of thought, therefore, called on men to stop deceiving themselves.
