George Finidi, the interim coach of the Super Eagles, has explained why the senior national team of Nigeria lost their friendly game against Mali on Tuesday night.
Recall that the Super Eagles lost 0-2 to Mali in a friendly match played in Marrakech, Morocco, after conceding two goals in each half, scored by El Bilal Toure and Kamory Doumbia.
While reacting to the outcome of the game, which saw Mali secure their first win against Nigeria since 1975, Finidi said that the Super Eagles performed commendably well.
“This is a team that keeps the ball very well, but if we had our injured strikers available, we would have changed the one on the pitch immediately,” Finidi said in his post-match.
“Losing two strikers forced us to play wide, and as an aggressive team, we did all we could. And you know football is all about victory.
“Lost one and won one, and we were not outplayed in the two matches, which gives me joy as a coach of the Super Eagles.
“I would have loved a different result in this game, but that’s not the case if we look at the performance of the players; it’s commendable.”
The Super Eagles will now shift attention to the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against South Africa in a double-header encounter set for June.
