The Presidency has extended its congratulations to Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr for their remarkable achievement of being nominated for the Grammy Award.
According to News.ng, the five singers were included in the 66th Grammy nominations list, which was unveiled on Friday, November 10, 2023, as nominees for the first-ever Best African Music Performance category.
Three other categories saw Burna Boy receive nominations: Best Melodic Rap Performance, Best Global Music Performance, and Best Global Music Album.
(Best Global Music Performance) and (Best Global Music Album) are the nominations that singer Davido received.
In a statement on Friday night, Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, congratulated the Nigerian musicians on their nominations.
“Congratulations to Nigerian singers Davido, Burna Boy, Asake/Olamide, and Ayra Starr for their nominations in the 66th Grammy Award to take place on Sunday, February 4th, 2024, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles,” Onanuga wrote on his social media page.
Tems, meanwhile, received a second Grammy nomination for co-writing “Lift Me Up,” a song by Rihanna from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which is up for Best Song Written for Visual Media.
Fireboy DML was nominated for his first Grammy for Album of the Year for his feature on Jón Batiste’s “World Music Radio.”
In a similar vein, CKay and Seun Kuti were nominated for Album of the Year in recognition of their contributions to Janelle Monae’s “Age of Pleasure.”
