Hamzat Lawal, the Chief Executive Officer of Connected Development, a leading civil society organization, has set forth an agenda and offered advice to the newly appointed Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede.
Lawal advocated for strengthened collaboration between civil society organizations, the EFCC, and other government agencies to foster a comprehensive approach to tackling corruption.
He further underscored the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability within the EFCC itself, as well as in its operations, to ensure public trust and credibility.
He noted that efficient recovery and forfeiture of assets gained through corruption are pivotal and called for the anti-corruption agency to streamline the processes.
Lawal urged Olukoyede to engage the youth and the public in the EFCC’s anti-corruption efforts through awareness campaigns and education.
He added:
”More importantly, he needs to uphold the independence of the EFCC in its operations, ensuring that it remains free from undue political influence.
”I urge him to provide strong and principled leadership to guide the EFCC in fulfilling its mandate and also promote professionalism and ethical conduct within the organization.
”As the world continues to evolve, I will advise the new EFCC boss to encourage a culture of continuous learning and adaptation to address evolving forms of corruption in the country.”
