The Nigerian Senate has taken the decisive action of suspending Senator Abdul Ningi for three months.
The suspension stems from allegations made by the senator, claiming that the National Assembly had approved two versions of the 2024 budget.
This decision was formally executed on Tuesday during a session of the Senate, causing a palpable surge of activity in the legislative body.
The move to suspend Senator Ningi was initiated by Jimoh Ibrahim, a member of the Appropriation Committee in the Senate, representing Ondo South Senatorial District.
Ibrahim presented a motion, advocating for a 12-month suspension of Ningi due to alleged misinformation and the disruption of peace within the National Assembly, with broader implications for the entire country.
Ibrahim also called for the Senate to issue a stern warning to Senator Suleiman Kawu, who represents Kano South, for disseminating provocative information on social media.
He further proposed that Senator Kawu should publicly apologize for his actions. This motion was promptly seconded by Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio officially announced and endorsed the motion on the Senate floor, marking a notable development in the legislative proceedings.
