A Nigerian man who was queried by his place of work because he was too sick to resume duties has died of kidney failure
Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman, a friend of the late man who narrated the sad incident via his Twitter handle, disclosed that shortly after the man was diagnosed with kidney failure, his place of work asked him to provide evidence before he could be given sick leave.
“This guy in my office was issued a query letter for not coming to work. “He wrote to explain that he was diagnosed with kidney failure, and he’ll be back soon, but they refused and said he must provide evidence first before they acknowledge his absence,” the narrator stated.
He explained that the office then issued his friend a query for being absent from work, but sadly, the sick man died before he could provide evidence of his illness to his workplace.
“The management went ahead to issue him a query letter for still not coming to work and producing evidence of ailment, and today he’s dead before the evidence of illness arrived. All the office did was issue a letter of condolence and life goes on as usual.” This world is truly nothing, “Abdulrahman explained.
The sad account has generated huge reactions from the Nigerian social media space about toxic management in some offices.
Concerned citizens called on the government to do more to protect workers’ rights.
