Seun Osewa, the founder of Nigeria’s most prominent online forum, Nairaland, has advised President Bola Tinubu to appoint Bismarck Rewane as the next Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor.

Osewa made the suggestion hours after President Tinubu suspended erstwhile CBN governor Godwin Emefiele.

He said the next CBN governor must be someone who is guided by a deep understanding of economics.

“Someone well versed in theoretical and practical macroeconomics,” he added.

He continued:

“I don’t know so many economists, but of those I know, Bismarck Rewane is my favourite because he is already playing the role of chief economist of the nation.

“He develops regular detailed reports about the state of the Nigerian economy, which he presents to politicians privately but also explains to the public on TV.

“Other economists in Tinubu’s orbit might be as good or better, but I am certain he will never regret picking Bismarck Rewane.”

Rewane, a renowned Nigerian economist, is the Chief Executive Officer of Financial Derivatives Company Limited.

He is a nephew of Alfred Rewane, a famous businessman who was a known associate of Nigerian nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Ola Brown, the founder of Flying Doctors Healthcare Investment Company, once remarked that Rewane was one of her reasons for studying economics.

In a LinkedIn post, where she wrote about him, she said:

“There are four things that make him stand out. His passion for his craft is Macroeconomic policy in Nigeria/Africa and microeconomics.

“The generosity with which he shares it. His mind. The way he thinks critically about problems and can rise above the noise.

“And His communication skill. He can break down complex topics in a way that non-expert audiences can understand.”
