President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the acting governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria hours after Godwin Emefiele was booted out.
Shonubi is the current CBN deputy governor in charge of operations. He has held the position since October 2018.
He was considered above the other four deputy governors: Aishah Ahmed, Edward Adamu, and Kingsley Obiora.
Below are a few things to know about the acting apex bank chief.
1) He was born on March 7, 1962.
2) Before his appointment, he was the Managing Director/CEO of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) PLC from 2012 – 2018.
3) Before being appointed the Managing Director NIBSS PLC, Shonubi was Executive Director of Information Technology and Operations at Union Bank of Nigeria Plc and a Board of Union Homes, member.
4) He attended the University of Lagos from 1978 to 1983, receiving a BSc in mechanical engineering.
5) He holds a double Master’s in Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Lagos.
6) Apart from Union Bank and NIBSS PLC, Shonubi has worked with Citi Bank, First City Monument Bank, Eco Bank, Mek-ind Associates, Agusto & Co. Ltd and Inlkas Computers.
7) He has been a Federal Inland Revenue Service board member since December 2019.
8) He has served on several sub-committees of the Bankers’ Committee, including the Ethics and Professionalism sub-committee.
9) He is married with children.
