On Monday, November 6th, 2023, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) visited Bayelsa State to meet with security personnel, police officers, and other stakeholders in preparation for the state’s upcoming gubernatorial elections.

The IGP met with Sen. Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, at the governor’s office in Yenegoa on Tuesday, according to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer ACP Muyiwa Adejobi. During their meeting, the IGP assured the people of the state that there would be a free, fair, secure, and credible election on November 11, 2023.

The IGP also had a meeting with the traditional rulers at the Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers’ Secretariat in Yenagoa.

“He took advantage of the chance to speak with the traditional rulers about a number of security-related concerns and asked them to support Bayelsans in exercising their right to vote during the elections since sufficient security has been provided by the police and other security agencies to ensure a smooth process.

“After that, at the State Headquarters, the IGP gave a speech to the Officers and other Men of the Command, instructing them to carry out their responsibilities during the Saturday’s election without fear or favour and within the bounds of the law.

“Even after the November 11 guber polls, the IGP cautioned them to always be good ambassadors of the NPF.”
