Demola Olarewaju, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu heavily rigged the 2023 presidential election to get to power.

Olarewaju, who was one of the spokespersons for the PDP in the 2023 polls, stated that the president was helped by his footsoldiers to outsmart Atiku Abubakar in northern Nigeria.

Atiku, a former vice president, was declared first runner-up by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Olarewau said:

”He had to rig heavily against Atiku Abubakar in too many parts of the north while counting on Obi to equally weaken the PDP across the south, without any real chance or pathway of breaking into the north beyond the Middle-Belt.

”Whether that massive rigging in the north will now stand is the all-important question of the polity in the coming weeks.”

The PDP chieftain also stated that Tinubu outflanked former President Olusegun Obasanjo to position himself as Leader of the Yorubas from 2003.

He added that Tinubu allied with the fundamentalist Fulanis led by Buhari and aggrieved northerners from PDP to bring Buhari into power by 2015.

”His final act in 2023 was to split the alliance between Igbos and the Nationalist Fulanis to bring himself into power,” he concluded.
