Barr. Juliet Ikhayere, a House of Reps candidate for the AMAC/Bwari constituency in Abuja, under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2023 elections, showed up at the presidential election tribunal in support of Peter Obi on Saturday, June 10.
Ikhayere stunned Nigerians on social media in November 2022 when she declared her support for the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate despite being a member of the ADC.
“Peter Obi’s emergence is timely; it has reshaped our political atmosphere. And I am not speaking as a politician. I am speaking as an ordinary Nigerian,” she said then.
Although she lost the election to an LP candidate, Obika Chinedu, she has continued to support Obi’s aspiration to become the president of Nigeria through the courts.
“Today, I was in court to show my continuous support to Peter Obi as well as observe the proceedings.
“Exhibits were tendered in court to substantiate issues relating to the transmission of electoral results in real-time and double nomination,” she wrote on her Twitter page.
LP supporters on Twitter thanked Barr. Ikhayere for her consistent support for Obi over the past months.
One of the party’s supporters, Joe Esume, wrote:
“We are proud of you. Thank you so much for all you do to ensure we have a new and better Nigeria.”
Evans Elvis, a lawyer and LP supporter wants more from the former ADC candidate.
He wrote:
“Barr Juliet, it’s not late now, join the Labour Party officially, and you’ll be carried along. In a short while, four years will be here again.
“You’ll go to the House of Reps. Start an early campaign for the nomination. I will support your campaign and mobilize people for you.”
Barr. Ikhayere, 28, is a former finance secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association Young Lawyers Forum.
